About 10 months ago I moved from Ohio, where I had been living for a couple months to focus on finishing my doctoral dissertation to North Carolina to start on a new business venture. Before I could open my sport training facility there was much to be done with...

      About Me
I'm Mike, the owner of an athletic development company called HPC. I recently quit my financially secure day job to 1) finish my PhD and 2) take my business full time. It's a risky venture and a major redirection (hence the blog name) in my life. I love food, hate sleep, and want to be my own boss. I have mild OCD and ADD but I will always post, so please come back if you are interested in following this venture and maybe picking up some random bits along the way.

    Reluctant Marketing

As I’ve mentioned a couple times before in this blog I’m basically a do-it-myself startup. I have quite a few people around me who are very helpful (and I’m very grateful for their help!) but for the most... More »

    Know Your Limits

I’m generally the kind of guy who tries to do everything themselves. If given a task I’ll generally try to figure out how to do it myself and take care of it. This ensures quality control and allows me to continually... More »

    Fitting in Fitness

Sometimes my schedule is so tight that despite owning a training center with more weights than I know what to do with, I find it hard to fit in time to workout. In fact, there are some days when I’ve spent most of the... More »

Do What You Love, Love What You Do

buy I Can Do Bad All by Myself A simple phrase but one that’s really rung true for me. Right now I’m working around 80-90 hours a week off getting my training center, Athletic Lab, off the ground. So far things... More »

The Benefits of Diversifying Revenue Streams

I’ve now been in NC for a little over 6 months and I’ve had Athletic Lab fully operational for about 7 weeks. Business at Athletic Lab has been modest but growing steadily. In an odd twist of fate, the very things... More »

    A Much Needed Refresh

As I mentioned in my last post I had been working for 7 days a week for the past couple weeks and it had been wearing on me. Yesterday I took an early day off (I just had one training session in the morning to coach) and... More »
